Active Protection
Active Protection.
Active Protection is the BMW ConnectedDrive preventive occupant protection system.
After the front safety belts are buckled, they are automatically pretensioned when the car starts moving. If a critical situation arises on the road, the front safety belts are reversibly pretensioned, if required. If there are comfort seats, the front passenger seat backrest is brought to an upright position. The side windows are closed − as is the sliding roof, if there is one. A critical situation would include an emergency stop made by the driver or if the automobile demonstrated excessive understeer or oversteer.
When the vehicle is fitted with Approach Warning or Approach Warning with Brake Activation, potential collisions with moving or stationary vehicles ahead can be recognised in advance (within the system’s limits).
In certain accident situations, the system can bring the vehicle to a standstill without any intervention from the driver. This helps to reduce the likelihood of a follow-up collision and to minimise the damage caused by one.
The Attentiveness Assistant also monitors your behaviour for signs of fatigue. Your steering responses are analysed and the system reacts to irregular driving behaviour. A notification appears in the Control Display suggesting you take a break.
