BMW ActiveE
With the BMW ActiveE BMW explored in a large-scale field test the practicality of electric mobility and tested developed by BMW powertrain of the Megacity Vehicle
BMW i3The BMW ActiveE marks an important step towards emission-free mobility. The electric vehicle is investigated from 2011 in Europe, in China and in the USA as part of a large-scale study on its suitability for everyday use.
The BMW ActiveE is a so-called conversion car. This means that energy storage, electric motor and power electronics are installed in a body that is usually used for vehicles with internal combustion engines. The BMW ActiveE is the BMW 1 Series Coupé. The vehicle has four full-size seats and a luggage compartment of 200 liters. Among them, directly on the rear axle, the electric motor is located. It delivers 125 kW / 170 hp and its maximum torque of 250 Nm available from a standing start. The BMW ActiveE accelerates in nine seconds from 0 to 100 km / h. The top speed is limited electronically and is 145 km / h.
accumulators
The energy supply is made up of modules of lithium-ion storage cells, which are distributed on three individual accumulator. You are where 1er engine, transmission tunnel and tank are placed in "real" BMW. The cells are protected by steel plate battery housing and cooled by a liquid cooling system with heat exchanger and heated to optimal 20 degrees Celsius in winter. The battery capacity allows a range of 160 kilometers - in everyday operation, ie with switched-consuming air conditioning or seat heating.
Charging the battery can be anywhere where there is electricity. The integrated comfort charger is not dependent on a specific charging station or current. To fully charge the storage in just four to five hours, there is the wall box - a supply system with 32 amps, which can be installed for example in the driver's garage.
remote functions
Like other BMW models also offers the BMW ActiveE a range of remote functions of BMW ConnectedDrive, for example, locking and unlocking or operating the heater for preheating the vehicle. Especially for the electric vehicle can be from a distance via iPhone app, the temperature of the energy storage and the loading control read or use. So the driver can display anywhere on his cell phone display charging status, the current range, the remaining distance to the destination or origin as well as available public charging stations.
practicality
For the study of the everyday practicality of electric mobility, more than 1,000 BMW ActiveE used. This data such as route length, maximum coverage as well as the loading times and the charging behavior will be documented and evaluated by BMW. The study is part of the development strategy BMW EfficientDynamics. The goal: innovative, large-series production vehicle concepts for emission-free mobility.
